ISC’5 Gold Coast, Australia
On the 5th September this year, we attended the ISC’5 (5th international conference on geotechnical and geophysical site characterisation) which was held in the sunny Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.crvomdmxyaipl25
It was well worth the 24 hour flight! The atmosphere of the entire conference was warmly unique with lots of networking opportunities for the delegates. The opening ceremony wowed the audience with authentic aboriginal dancing and didgeridoo playing; what a spectacular and welcoming show.
We also had contributed presentations from industry professionals from around the globe, including Dr John Powell who presented his paper ‘Small Strain Stiffness Assessments from In Situ Tests Revisited’ written in connection with our very own Luisa Dhimitri and Darren Ward.crvpeb1wcaajsqe
The Course instructors for the CPT workshops were Tom Lunne, Peter Robertson and John Powell and covered interpretations of soil behaviour type and clays. Other workshops included direct applications of soil liquefaction, shallow and deep foundations and ground improvement.
The conference gala dinner was fantastically organised and injected with a fun talent contest comprised of volunteering delegates! Live music rocked, cuddly koalas, kangaroos and duckbilled platypuses made an appearance on each table; people were sorry to say goodbye!
