The top prize in our new competition is a much-coveted ticket for the 2015 Rankine Lecture Dinner at the Imperial College, London on Wednesday 18th March. Tickets for the dinner are now SOLD OUT, so are officially gold-dust, with a waiting list for places…….we can provide you with a ‘Golden Ticket’ worth £85 and you will join our friendly team on the InSitu SI table to enjoy dinner and drinks with us.
The dinner follows the 55th Rankine Lecture, which is being delivered this year by Dr Suzanne Lacasse from the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) The topic of this year’s debate is ‘Hazard, Risk and Reliability in Geotechnical Practice’ and focuses on an overview of the basic concepts, before looking at several “real life” case studies.
Find out more details about the lecture here.
The annual Rankine Lectures are widely viewed as the most prestigious of the invited lectures in geotechnology and they commemorate WJM Rankine, who was a Professor of Civil Engineering at Glasgow University. He was one of the first engineers in the UK to make a significant contribution to soil mechanics. He is best known for his theory relating to the Earth’s pressure on retaining walls.
Advance booking for the lecture at 5.30pm is not required, and it is free to attend. If you win our competition, then you will be lucky enough to round off the occasion with the meal. Find out more about the contributions of risk assessment and management to geotechnical engineering, and then enjoy a sociable meal with great food and great company!
